Hyperlocal works with public art, architecture, urbanism, and landscape. Managed by Zhicheng Xu and Mengqi Moon He, Hyperlocal engages in design research while working on architectural projects with like-minded individuals around the world.

Hyperlocal is based in New York City and Houston.

Zhicheng Xu

Zhicheng is the founder of Hyperlocal. He is an architectural and landscape architectural designer and educator based in Boston and Houston.

His work explores the role of art and architecture in the greater ecological and cultural fabric, as well as the interaction between non-human species and the built environment. His work has been exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Lisbon Architecture Triennale, RMIT Design Hub, Latrobe Regional Gallery, and the Center for Architecture in New York. Zhicheng has received awards from the Urban Land Institute, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the National Landscape Architecture Foundation, ASLA-Indiana, and ASLA-Boston.

Zhicheng holds a Master's degree in architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from Purdue University. He currently teaches at the MIT Department of Architecture and holds the 2023-2025 Wortham Fellow position at Rice University School of Architecture.

Mengqi Moon He

Mengqi Moon is a designer, urbanist, and researcher. She explores critical urban design, its history, and theory. Her work unpacks complex systems and their interaction with users across scales. Her work has been exhibited at Shanghai Power Station of Art, Harvard Museum of Natural History, MIT Wiesner Gallery, and MIT Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism. Moon holds an M.S. in architecture from MIT and a B.Arch from the University of Southern California.
